Missing the Bristol food scene whilst we’re stuck in lockdown? Yep, we feel ya there. Working with so many food and drink indies pre-all-this-shit we were thoroughly spoiled when it came to eating and drinking out and this has really made us realise a) how lucky we were and b) how much we took it as a given. But panic not – us Bristolians are a resourceful bunch and true to form our amazing food scene has been quick to react, meaning you can still enjoy some of the best the city has got to offer, delivered to your door.
We’ve rounded up some of our favourite indies who are offering takeaways and food deliveries during ‘these trying times’ (GOD if we have to hear that one more time!), so you can not only get stuck into some amazing local food but you can support the city’s independent hospitality scene at the same time – winner.
Asado owner, Lucien, is pretty much the Don of Bristol when it comes to outrageously good burgers, made using some of the best produce you can get your hands on, and he’s now offering collections from their Colston Avenue shop or delivery on Deliveroo. Their legendary El Don is now back on the menu – trust us, it’s the tits.
We could practically hear Bristol burger fans cheering when Oowee announced they’d be opening all three of their sites for takeaway and delivery last week. Utter filth of the highest order and worth every bite, you can get their normal and vegan offerings straight to your door. *Warning* – you’ll probably need a lie down afterwards.
Feeling fancy? Yeah, always. Our great mates over at Hyde & Co are now offering home delivery of selected cocktails, beers, wines, spirits and food – including steak kits from The Ox and Sunday roasts. The cocktails are banging – and we’re not just saying that because the Duchess team have been helping to make them!
Henry at The Cauldron was pretty much the first one out of the gate when it came to switching things up when lockdown hit and man, has he done it well! Get involved with their themed nights including pizza, curry and fish Friday – but you’ll have to be quick off the mark to bag one of their famous roasts. They’re also offering provisions boxes all delivered to your door.
Famed for some of the best breakfasts, baked goods and coffee in town, brilliant Bakers and Co are now selling everyday essentials from the cafe on Gloucester Rd as well as a selection of meal kits and cocktails from across their group, including Cargo Cantina and Masa and Mezcal – if you haven’t tried one of their Mezcal Negronis add it your next list – just make sure you don’t have to Zoom anyone in the morning!
Lovely Hugo’s on North Street are now offering fruit and veg boxes, as well as all your essentials for delivery and speaking from experience they’re crazy quick! The mixed boxes include a whole load of seasonal local produce and let us tell you – the sourdough from the Bristol Loaf is quite possibly some of the best bread we’ve ever eaten!
If you’re running low on booze then Kask have got your back. Choose from a selection of specially selected wines which they change up every week and they’ll deliver them all across the city – you can also level up and order their cheese pairings to go with it! I ordered a bottle of their Lemoss fizz a few weeks ago and I’ve been dreaming about it ever since!
A proper Bristol institution, Lona Grill on Gloucester Road are now offering delivery within a few miles of the city as well as collection. Huge portions of fresh (super reasonable!) Lebanese food this one comes highly recommended by our very own Shonette, and let me tell you, she knows her stuff!
These guys have been so popular since offering delivery of their amazing Japanese soul food that they’ve had to extend their delivery areas to meet demand after basically the whole of Totterdown started a campaign to get them! Pre-orders only so be quick.
The best pizza in town (in our humble opinion) is back! You can get Pizzarova on deliveroo and collection from their Park Street venue and they’re also selling their build-your-own pizza kits. Sack off Dominoes and show some love to these guys instead.
Last but not least, it wouldn’t be a Duchess round up without a shout to our absolute fave local, The Orch. If, like us, there’s a cider shaped hole in your week then these guys are selling flagons of their impressive range of local ciders to collect. We miss you The Orchard!!
For an even more in-depth round up of places delivering and offering collection whilst we’re all stuck at home check out our mates over at Best Of Bristol with their amazing Indie-Map – it’ll be your new one-stop-shop for all things food and drink until we can get the hell out of this and go and actually eat a meal somewhere other than the sofa – IMAGINE THAT?!
